WHERE ARE WE LOCATED (and what’s here)?

Our place is Nordingrå, in the High Coast of Sweden. A beautiful area located about halfway up Sweden, on the country’s east coast. Swedes say we are in the northern parts of the country. Located in the heart of an emerging arts and crafts cluster, the residence is part of a dynamic art production site. Read more about it below.

The High Coast is a large area that stretches from Härnösand in the south to Örnsköldsvik in the north, and inland to Sollefteå. The area is rich in lakes, seas, mountains, forests, rivers and cultural history. Here there is also a fine cultural life in the small towns, with art galleries, theaters and great stages for dance and music. Nordingrå is strategically located in the middle of everything, and you can reach the entire area during day trips. You can also make day trips to the larger cities of Sundsvall in the south and Umeå in the north.

Nordingrå is in itself a rich area with 52 villages, 52 lakes and 52 mountains. The area, which is actually a parish, has a rich cultural history and an active community life. The residence is located 5 km to a small community with a shop, pizzeria.

More information can be found on : The High Coast website, Nordingrå.nu, Kramfors municipality, Härnösand municipality, Sollefteå municipality, Örnsköldsvik municipality.

Who can book the residence?

Nordingrå Konstby’s residency is open to artists and cultural professionals of all disciplines. We value the benefits of meeting across disciplinary boundaries and with different experiences.

We believe that our residence is suitable for you if you enjoy working in the High Coast scenery, regardless of whether you want to look at it from your window or walk in its surroundings. We also think it suits you if you like being in and inspired by, an active workplace where artists and artisans work both together and alongside each other. Nordingrå Konstby is both a place and a context. As an artist in residence, you can choose to take part in the community and get to know the people, or work on your own and observe the rest from a distance.

To book your stay, start by selecting the room you desire, and then choose the preferred period in the calendar. Also email your CV or a brief description of your work to kontakt@nordingrakonstby.se. We always respond within 24 hours after receiving your email, and once you receive confirmation, you can proceed with the booking. Therefore, you can expect to complete your booking within 24 hours of your request.

At the moment our residency is self-funded and paid at the point of booking. We do not have any scholarships that you can apply for (we are working on this and will have scholarships soon). There is also the option to pay for your residency in exchange for work hours through our volunteer program. You can then help us with renovations, working in our shop or café, cleaning, gardening or anything else that may be needed. We are currently building our volunteer program, so stay posted for announcements and information by following our newsletter.

Work premises

When you book a residency with us, you are always allocated  your own work space. On the booking page, you will find pictures and information about your room and work studio. All workspaces are equipped with a table, chair and lighting, and we can supplement with additional things that you may need. The premises are in close proximity to the bedrooms. Our houses are old and well used, but always clean and functional. There is a lot of history in the place, which can be felt in the walls.

Collective artists studios

In both of our buildings there is also the Nordingrå Collective Artists’ Studios (NKKV), with workshops equipped for graphics, classical letterpress, tufting, metal and enamel. For those who want to work in one or more of these workshops, special fees and booking apply. In that case, contact the workshop manager, information is found on nordingrakv.se/english. It is a good idea to get in touch well in advance of your arrival, as in some cases an introduction may be needed. Some studios are also more popular and therefore often booked, so if you want to be sure of getting the opportunity to work in a specific studio, it is important that you get in touch in time. All information and contact details can be found on NKKV’s website, which you can reach via the link above.

Nordingrå Collective Artists’ Studios is, with its approx. 30 members, a large workplace for artists in Nordingrå.

Cowork

In the middle of the village is a coworking space, run by Artdot. Here you can work digitally, with art or administration – or manage your day job remotely while you are in the village. It is an opportunity that several of our artists in residence have appreciated, both for the connections made there and for the opportunity to extend their stay in the Art Village. Read more about cowork on Artdot’s page above or here.
