Residency artist – Sanneke Griepink

Den nederländske konstnären Sanneke Griepink besöker Nordingrå Konstby för andra gången, bara några veckor efter att hennes vän Marja Broersen varit här. Här kan du läsa om Sannekes mål med sin arbetsvistelse och varför hon återvänder till Nordingrå Konstby.

I am Sanneke Griepink from Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

The landscape, the macro as well as the micro aspects in it, is my subject after visiting
Iceland, Sweden and Norway. I am an artist that has her bias on oil- and watercolorpainting
and soft pasteldrawing. It takes up a large sum of my work.
Color is important for me, as an instrument that transport emotions. Structures, erosion,
light and shades, a sense of temporality and eternity is evident.

I am attracted to the landscapes in the northern hemispheres and like to translate my
impressions in works that have an emphasis on the realistic and abstract elements in the
landscape. I want to immerge in the surroundings, react and work directly at firsthand.
Nordingrå Konstby is set in a natural habitat of Höga Kūsten that holds signs of geological
and human history. With my friend Marja Broersen who came here in May this year I
explored Höga Kūsten 2 years ago by taking the 100km long Höga Küsten trail.
The history, surroundings, the people that live there and the stories that are part of it made
a deep impression on me.

Summer project: In Nordingrå I like to study the structures of the landscape and how open
land rocks and forest and sea interconnect, the eroded rocks and the structured trees in the
forest. In the eternal cyclic process; growth, duration, erodation, destruction and rebirth
new shapes are coming to existance in surprising coexistence of several overlapping
ecosystems.

I hope my time in Nordingrå Konstby will enable me to go back to Rödklittan and work there
plain air, or make sketches from a point that impressed me the first time I went there.
Also I like to visit Dalberget, Kiörningsberget and Rodsidan.
If possible, learning Swedish, I like to use the letterpress in the shop/basement to print a few
Swedish words on paper where I will work on, to make a mixture between language and
surroundings.
