Residency artist – Cecilia D’Alessandro
Under några veckor i juli vistades konstnären Cecilia D’Alessandro Konstbyns residens. Här berättar Cecilia om sig själv och sitt arbete:
I am a French artist leaving in the South of France. I mostly work with
engraving but if I used to produce etching in the past, working with acid
is no longer my main technique and my choice. I prefer working in
drypoint with water-based ink, safer for the environment as for me as I
work at home now. The research of black depth is the core of the work
with an experimentation starting from dark to light rather than the
opposite. There’s less a desire of a contrast than a research of black
essence directly inspired by Pierre Soulages’ work and his ”outerblack”,
loving the ambivalence of that distinctive and unique color, at the same
time solemnity and intensity.
I studied Art at the Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier 3 in France. My
main technique was drawing until I find printmaking during an internship
in Cork, Ireland. Since then I have been practising and producing prints in
different techniques: etching, linocut, drypoint, lithograph, photopolymer.
Etching and linocut being the most popular for what I want to express. I
am a member of the printmaking studio Cork Printmakers in Ireland.
Drawing is the base. I am a figurative artist, it’s the way I express my
ideas even if sometimes I can make some abstractive works for a
different purpose.
During my stay I would like to work on a project I have of a medium scale
print. The residency will allow me to start the drawing phase that will
lead to the engraving phase then the final print and might be at the end
a diptych or a triptych.
The topic of nature is really important because it will be representative of
the final print. That’s why I chose this artist residency as it’s surrounded
by natural landscapes and silence and also far away from crowded cities.
