In the memorial exhibition “Maskros”, meaning dandelion, we are reacquainted with the recently deceased artist Christer Carlstedt. Through his artwork we are made to experience the craft of the hand, thin pencil strokes and small movements that induce images that contain everything.
During a period, he used small dandelions in his artwork, which lead to the title of the exhibition. With Christer’s characteristic attention to detail, flowers were placed in minimalistic cupboards, the hollow stalk being firmly held up by a drilled hole in the wooden plate. With time, the dandelions would slowly wilter and their expression change.
Christer Carlstedt was a visual artist and a printmaker who during his whole life worked from his home town of Örnsköldsvik, where he was a founding member of the Örnsköldsvik Collective Artists’ Studio, that he remained active in until his passing in October 2020.
His significance as a creator of art in the region cannot be overstated, as he was always involved in the studio’s and the association’s best interests, something that stemmed from his love of the tactile art and a belief in the collective work.
